Gustav Wendel Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains documents of Gustav Wendel and his family, including documents pertaining to Wendel's service as a physician in the German army; family documents, such as birth, marriage, and citizenship certificates, family history, and correspondence; and documents pertaining to Wendel's medical training. Also included is a letter to Wendel from Lion Feuchtwanger.
Folder 1 contains a letter from Gustav Wendel to Lion Feuchtwanger with Wendel's congratulations on Feuchtwanger's 70th birthday and additional inquiry into the fate of August L. Mayer, along with letter written in response from Feuchtwanger to Wendel (1954). Also included is a document appointing Michael Wendel as head of the Jewish community of Flamersheim (1833).
Folder 2 contains documents pertaining to Wendel's service as a physician in the German army, including military pass, pay book, commissions, certificates for military decorations, and certificate detailing his military service.
Folder 3 contains documentation of the Gustav Wendel family, including a brief family history, birth certificates, vaccination certificates, marriage certificates, citizenship certificates, licenses, family questionnaire, and personal correspondence.
Folder 4 contains documents pertaining to Gustav Wendel's medical training, including certificates of departure from various universities, certificates for classes attended, certificates for Wendel's appointment as a doctor of medicine, authorized copies of various medical certificates, authorized copies of various letters of recommendation written for Wendel, and his licence to practice medicine in the state of New York.
