Helmut Galliner Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 4711

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains a few letters and a number of Galliner's writings, some in manuscript format but most taken from German and German-Jewish newspapers during the Third Reich.

The correspondence includes letters from Alexander Marx, Alexander Guttmann, Jakob Picard, and Eugen Täubler. The folder of essays and articles, largely clippings from German-language papers during the 1930s, includes a number of essays on Liberal and Reform Judaism, youth movements in Judaism, and assorted theological and philosophical aspects of Judaism. Some of the essays are typescripts or are handwritten. The lectures pursue a broader range of topics, including Nostradamus, Jewish politicians, and Sephardic culture, and are all represented here as typescripts or manuscripts. The final folder, varia, contains a report on a conversation with Ernst Grumach concerning the seizure of Jewish books under the Nazi occupation in Holland, as well as a Mendoza family tree.
