Höxter Family Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 6875

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains correspondence sent by Käthe and Hugo Höxter, first from their home in Mannheim, and then beginning late 1940 from the Gurs camp, to their son Heinz (Henry) in Louisiana.

There is a also limited amount of correspondence from other relatives and individuals in the United States and in other camps in southern France, some of which indicates that the extended Höxter family was actively trying to secure visas for Käthe and Hugo to leave Germany and France. There are also letters confirming the deportation of Hugo and Kate Höxter, and confirming their deaths in the Auschwitz camp.

Accompanying the original letters and postcards is a manuscript by Henry Hoexter, whose content consists of translated excerpts from the letters with explanatory, biographical, and autobiographical texts.
