Scope and Content Note

The collection contains some personal documents of and official correspondence to Rudolf Cohn, but is mainly composed of published and unpublished manuscripts.

The correspondence in folder 2 is primarily official regarding his membership in the board of the synagogue community of Königsberg and his position at the university. The published manuscripts in folder 4 are primarily from various professional medical journals and include three articles by Hugo Wiener, A. Magnus-Levy, and Wilhelm Wiechowski. The manuscripts in folders 5 and 6 are all handwritten, with the exception of one typed lecture entitled "Über die Funktion des Lebers." The manuscripts deal with health, nutrition, and chemistry.

Biographical Note

Born in Schneidemühl (now Pila, Poland) on April 23, 1862, Cohn studied medicine, receiving his doctorate at the University of Königsberg in 1886. He was a lecturer and assistant professor at Königsberg, specializing in pharmacology and physiological chemistry, and also continued in private medical practice. Cohn emigrated to Palestine in 1933 and died there in 1938.
