Charlotte Hillburn Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains vital and educational records of Charlotte Hillburn (born Liselotte Wiener) and her family. It also contains materials about Jews in Gleiwitz, Upper Silesia (today Gliwice, Poland).
Vital and educational records (mostly photocopies), primarily for Charlotte Hillburn but also for her husband and sons, include birth, marriage, immigration, and naturalization records, as well as educational records and letters of reference. Many have translations into English. Other family materials include photographs of Berthold Wiener's grave (in Gleiwitz); a short statement about Hillburn's uncle Salo Jacob; and some 1994 information about the cousins and other relatives of the Wiener family. Material related generally to the Jews of Gleiwitz includes lists of Jews from Gleiwitz and lists of microfilm records; correspondence with former resident Hilde Kochmann and researcher Ernst Lustig; clippings; a copy of a 1961 book chapter, Von den Juden in Gleiwitz, by Wilhelm Lustig; memorial materials, and an account, in English, of Hilde Kochmann's return visit, in 1998, to Gleiwitz.

Biographical Note
Charlotte (Lotte) Hillburn was born as Lieselotte Wiener in Gleiwitz (Upper Silesia, today Gliwice, Poland) on May 13, 1921, the daughter of Berthold Wiener (1881-1923) and his wife Cecilia, née Jacob. In 1939 she left Germany for England, and in 1944 married attorney Lionel Hillburn (May 30, 1904 – October 22, 1983). He was also a German refugee, born Leopold Heilberg in Euskirchen, Germany to Salomon and Rosetta (née Ruhr) Heilberg. In 1955 the family, with sons Michael (1945- ) and David (1950- ), immigrated to the United States via Cuba.

Abstract
This collection contains vital and educational records of Charlotte Hillburn (born Liselotte Wiener) and her family. It also contains materials about Jews in Gleiwitz, Upper Silesia (today Gliwice, Poland).
Processing Information
Duplicates, envelopes, and voter registrations were removed and discarded. Sticky notes with significant content were removed to a piece of acid-free paper, which was then clipped to the original document.
