Rolf Hofmann Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 10913

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains manuscripts, genealogical tables, photographs, clippings, and correspondence originating from Rolf Hofmann's genealogical research on Jewish communities in southern Germany, including extensive materials from his Harburg Project.

The first series contains various fragments, and notes on the Eppstein, Liebmann, and Guldmann families, as well as on the individuals Löb Michael Weinbach and Theodor Harburg. There are also several photographs of Jewish cemeteries in Wallerstein and Harburg. A second series designates materials which Hofmann created under the title of The Harburg Project. Within this series, there are short typescript narrative sketches of events and episodes from several individual families' histories, as well as "family sheets," genealogical tables (family trees), and transcriptions of gravestones in Nördlingen and Oettingen. The family trees are standard in format and presentation, and the family sheets contain vital statistics, family data, and various other facts and and brief information on individuals; not every individual who has a family sheet is listed in the family trees, and vice versa. This second series contains data stretching back to the 17th century.

A small addendum in Series II includes a letter written in 1934 concerning the Harburg synagogue as an artistic landmark.
