Scope and Content Note

The collection contains the photocopy of a program for an opera performed by the Liederkranz group in 1937 and a color scan of the book cover for "Das judische Sportbuch: Weg, Kampf und Ziel der judischen Sportverbande" with inscribed title page (1903). The pay book for Jakob Rosenthal, Max Liebmann’s uncle, a soldier in World War I is also included, as well as a photo album with pictures of some trips of the Mannheimer bowling club in 1929 and 1930.

Biographical Note

Max Liebmann was born in Mannheim in 1921, the son of Alfred Liebmann (born in 1887) and Jeanne née Levi.

Alexander Hirsch, the brother of Hanna Liebmann née Hirsch, came to the US in September of 1937 at age 16. He was killed on January 21, 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge as part of the 3rd US Army.

Eugen Hirsch was a board member of Liederkranz and later of Kulturbund in Mannheim; he immigrated to the US in 1939.

Abstract
