Sidney Adler Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 6856

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists largely of printed materials and print ephemera, many of which Adler appears to have collected during a journey to Europe in 1929-1931. These materials include several pre-war postcards and stationary, as well as travel guidebooks, brochures, and periodicals, many from the North German Lloyd (Norddeutscher Lloyd NDL) steamship carrier. The postcards feature depictions of locales in Europe visited by Adler, including a few pre-war cards depicting synagogues, hotels, tourist sites, and the ships on which Adler traveled. Other materials include some of Adler's correspondence, mostly from the 1930s. Some of these mailings feature censorship stamps and printed requests not to be sent via a German ship. Other items of note include American travel permits for 'aliens of enemy nationalities,' located in folder 1, and a 1933 flyer for a Baltimore protest against German persecution of Jews.
