Historical Note
During the 1970s John H. Bergmann was conducting research on the history of the Jews of Swabia. In order to follow the movement of Jewish people he focused on the history of one family, the Einsteins, originally looking to prove his early hypothesis that Einstein family members from Buchau, Laupheim, and Fellheim had common roots. A German-Jewish immigrant from Laupheim, he also wrote a book The Bergmanns from Laupheim, compiled a list of all Holocaust victims from Laupheim, and collected funds for a memorial park in Laupheim for Holocaust victims and for the restoration of old graves in the Laupheim cemetery.
