Seefeld Family, Berlin, Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 5559

Scope and Content Note

This collection contains papers relating to the family of Kurt Rosenbaum (later Roberts), especially of his in-laws the Seefeld family, who were hat manufacturers in Berlin.

The first folder contains a family tree tracing the origins of the Seefeld family to Wolf Lewin Seefeld of Jastrow. The majority of the papers pertain to Kurt Rosenbaum's emigration to Canada and later to the United States under the sponsorship of the Alfred Dunhill tobacco company. There are also some photocopied vital documents for various family members, obituaries, and photocopies of legal documents, including the contract for the forced sale by the Seefeld family of their former premises in Berlin. The second folder contains materials, including a large illustrated company history, on the Scheier & Herz hat and clothing company, of which the Seefelds were co-founders and partners. Finally, there are two larger family trees which trace the Seefeld family back to early modern Europe.
