Scope and Content Note

This collection contains several honorary certificates and awards which Paula Ollendorff won for her social and charitable work in the Jewish community of Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland). In addition there are some condolence letters to her family on her death in 1938, some manuscripts which include both memoirs and materials which may have served as notes for school lectures on literature. Finally, a small number of clippings on Ollendorf and inserts from the German Jewish press in Breslau and the region, all dating to the 1930s, have been kept in this collection.

Biographical Note

Paula Ollendorff was born near Breslau in 1860, and she would spend much of her life in Breslau. By trade a teacher, she married the civil rights lawyer Isidor Ollendorff in 1888, and after his death in 1911 she continued many of his social engagements. Notably, she built in Breslau homes for Jewish infants and girls, as well as a school for domestic workers. She was also a leader in the German Democratic Party, and recognized as an elder of the Jewish community of Breslau. She died in Jerusalem in 1938.
