 Collection
Identifier: AR 6390

Scope and Content Note

The bulk of the materials in this collection concern Arthur Bial's education and professional career as a physician in Germany, his emigration to the Netherlands in the 1930s and internment in the Westerbork camp. There is also a diary-memoir written by his son who also survived internment in Westerbork.

The bulk of the materials in this collection document Arthur Bial's education and professional career as a physician in Germany. A substantial number of documents also pertain to his internment in Westerbork camp.

There are also a handfull of Arthur Bial's vital documents, many of which appear to have been issued by the German government prior to his emigration to the Netherlands. Among the more remarkable of the personal papers are a birthday card presented to Bial in 1944 in Westerbork and an honorary title or degree issued by an East German university to Bial after the war. He is depicted in a drawing on the birthday card as camp physician.
