John L. Loeb Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains John L. Loeb's collection of manuscripts and charts on the genealogy of his extended family, in particular the families Loeb, Rosenheim, Lehman, and Lewisohn/Levy.
The manuscripts are by a number of different authors and thus take many different shapes. The first and longest of them is a transcription of an autobiography of Adolph Lewisohn. The majority of the remaining manuscripts represents a more standard genealogical approach, and present family history data in tables and in chronicles, with occasional excerpts from or reproductions of primary source documents. The majority of the families appear to have roots in southern Germany, mainly near Würzburg, and many emigrated to the United States in the 19th century.
