Rothschild-Lippmann Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists primarily of the postcard correspondence of Hans Rothschild (1890-1987). This correspondence includes letters and postcards from friends and family. It also includes correspondence of his parents Arnold Rothschild (1851-1921) and Fanny Rothschild née Lippmann (1869-1937?). It consists mostly of postcards and letters from friends and family. The third correspondence folder contains a few letters, postcards, and telegraphs from other family members.
The genealogical materials include a detailed family tree for the Rothschild family of Simmern, beginning with Salomon Rothschild (circa 1756–1831); research correspondence with German archives; and photocopies of archival documents, mostly Spezifikation tables, which appear to list names of Jews living in a certain area on a given date.
The Various materials include announcement of Arnold and Fanny's engagement, a childhood lock of hair from either Hans or Fritz, poems, an illustrated children's notebook, a poem written by Fanny's brother Emil Lippmann, and chamber music programs. It also includes ephemera from carnival, including an invitation to a masked ball.

Fanny Rothschild née Lippmann (1869-1937?) of Cologne, Germany married Arnold Rothschild (1851-1921) in 1889. They had two children, Hans Rothschild (1890-1987) of Cologne and Amsterdam and Fritz Rothschild (1891-1980?).

Abstract
This collection consists primarily of the postcard correspondence of Hans Rothschild (1890-1987). It also includes detailed genealogical material about the Lippmann and Rothschild families of Cologne, Germany and Simmern, Germany (today Simmertal, Germany).

The folders are arranged alphabetically by title.
Separated Material
Six paintings were previously removed to the LBI Art and Objects Collection.
Photographs were previously removed to the LBI photograph collection and digitized.
Processing information
Materials were refoldered. During prior processing, individual items were wrapped in acid-free paper. Some of these wrappers were removed during this processing.
