Hirschkind Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
Almost all of this collection consists of family correspondence from the 1940s received by Ruth and Lothar Hirschkind of New York City from relatives in Düsseldorf, including Philipp Israel Weinberg, Theodor Israel Sondheimer, Louis Israel Grünebaum, and the Goldschmidt families, as well as from Klaus Anschel in Australia. The final folder includes a letter from 1946 from Dr. Josef Eitel of Düsseldorf alluding to the fate of some of these relatives. Other materials include a printed card advertising a concert (1934) and some photos included in a letter from 1984. Many of the letters from the 1940s bear censorship stamps.
