Scope and Content Note

The collection contains documents pertaining to the Sulzbach family, as well as documents pertaining to the Jewish communities of Hungen and Birstein.

Folder 1 contains documentation of the Sulzbach family, including an accounting of the estate of Julius Joel, with delineation of expenses and equal partition among the heirs; tax documents; telegram to Albert Sulzbach from the Hilfsverein Unterlindau and an affadavit of support; letter regarding the death of Julius Klipstein; documents pertaining to the estate of Isidor Sulzbach; and documents pertaining to the fates of Hermann and Florenze Kahn in World War II.

Folder 2 contains documents pertaining to the Jewish community in Hungen, Germany, including statutes of the Jewish burial society in Hungen; essay about the synagogue and Jewish religious community in Hungen from 1445 to 1942; a compilation of excerpts from the Hungen court book in the 15th century; and extensive correspondence of Albert Sulzbach regarding the condition and upkeep of the Jewish cemetery in Hungen.

Folder 3 contains articles and clippings pertaining to the Jewish communities in Birstein, Kirchbracht, Fischborn, Mauswinkel, and Lichenroth.
