This collection contains sheet music, manuscript pages, and audiocassettes once owned by Rabbi Vaz Dias. Items include book manuscripts, notes, and Synagogue ephemera, as well as sheet music and audiocassetes containing traditional Sephardic music. These materials were donated to the American Sephardi Federation's archives as part of their ASF's initiative to preserve the rich history and culture of Sephardim locally and around the world.

Biographical Note

Rabbi Salomon L. Vaz Dias lives in New York City and is a distinguished member of several Jewish organizations including the Jewish National Fund (Board of Trustees) and the American Sephardi Federation (Board of Directors Advisory Board). He is a lecturer and author on the topic of Western Sephardim.

The Rabbi Salomon L. Vaz Dias papers consist of book manuscripts, synagogue ephemera, sheet music, and audiocassettes.


This collection is arranged by format. Many of the audiocassettes are untitled, but were numbered sequentially prior to processing. Any original cassette titles belonging to those numbered items can be found in folder notes.

Several legal-sized folders of sheet music were replaced with oversized folders to provide better housing. All oversized materials have been moved to the archives' flat file storage.

Acquisition Information

The American Sephardi Federation archives acquired these materials from Rabbi Salomon L. Vaz Dias in October 2006.

Related Material

Rabbi Vaz Dias donated on several occasions to the American Sephardi Federation's Library and Archives. His most sizable donation over the years consisted of books on Sephardic leadership, religion, and culture.
