Scope and Content Note

The Nettie Friede Kosminsky papers contain several booklets written and put together by Nettie Friede Kosminsky. Subjects of these booklets include: her travels (mainly cruises) around the world (anecdotal, personal material) with her sister, Myrtle Friede Cassett, American Jewish history, advice on growing older and autobiographical material, and wedding memorabilia from her parents' wedding in 1883. Also included are materials relating to the life of the Hon. Meyer Friede, Nettie's grandfather, a member of the Missouri House of Representatives.

The collection is valuable to researchers studying Jews, women, and travel; Jewish weddings; Jews and politics; Jews and the Civil War; and Jewish women and aging.

The collection contains booklets, newspaper clippings, copies of speeches and legal documents in one box. The documents are in English.

Abstract

Consists primarily of mimeographed copies of thirteen travel diaries prepared by Nettie Kosminsky and her sister Myrtle Cassett in the course of their travels around the world. They are personal in nature and contain anecdotal material on each place visited. Also contains photocopied typescripts of speeches regarding slavery delivered by Meyer Friede in the Missouri legislature (1860), and a reply to an anti-Semitic statement made by another legislator (1861).
