Scope and Content Note

Collection consists of first day of issue stamps issued by the U.S. Post office. Included with each stamp is a biographical or historical sketch of Jewish history as it relates to the stamp's theme. Sketches are organized alphabetically by subject. Among the many famous people featured in this collection, several notable names stand out in interest, such as Jack Benny, Milton Berle, Eddie Cantor, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Edna Ferber, Ira and George Gershwin, Samuel Goldwyn, Jacob Koppel Javits, the Marx Brothers, Henrietta Szold, Harry Truman, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
