Scope and Content Note

This collection consists primarily of a calendar of material (1900-05, 1910-11, 1913-15, 1917-23, 1927-52) relating to the United States found in the Weizmann Archives, Rehovot, Israel, as well as a copy of the index to the Weizmann papers (1885-1914), and various reports issued by the Archives, all annotated by Fein. Also includes microfilm and typed calendars/descriptions of U.S.-related material found in the Central Zionist Archives, the State Archives, the Aaron Aaronsohn Archives, the Jabotinsky Archives, the Archives of the History of the Jewish People, the Labor Archives, and the Hebrew University Library and Yad va-Shem Archives.

Also included is a "temporary list," and microfilm copies of some papers of the Judah L. Magnes Archives (University Library) with items relating to the United States checked, as well as typed, copies of some of the Palestine correspondence of Dr. Harry Friedenwald, the majority with his accountant, R.D. Kesselman relating to conditions in the country (1935-1939).

Collection also contains copies and translations of articles by Fein and others regarding Baltimore Jewish history; essays on Louis Marshall; microfilmed inventories found in the Central Zionist Archives on Samuel Broches, Herman Frank, A.S. Sachs and Jacob Shatzky; an original letter from Israel Friedlaender to Julian Mack on his visit to Eastern Europe (1920); biographical material on Friedlaender; typescript of a 1964 interview with Mrs. Judah L. Magnes; typescript of a letter from Max Nordau to Richard J.H. Gottheil; typescript translation and xerox copies of 10 letters from Heinrich Graetz to Benjamin Szold, 1886-1889; and other correspondence on scholarly matters conducted by Fein.
