Biographical Note

The Zionist Organization of America was founded in 1918 and is an umbrella organization for the following: Hoveve Zion, the Federation of American Zionists, the Knights of Zion, Young Judaea, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America, the Western Zionist Alliance, and the Free Sons of Zion. The primary goal of ZOA was the creation of a Jewish state. It also promotes justice and peace, the rights of Jews, the encouragement of American Aliyah to Israel and the strengthening of cultural and economic ties between the United States and Israel. ZOA participates in the United Jewish Appeal, the Israel Board Campaigns, and since 1964 has operated the Zionist Investment and Development Corporation and the ZOA House in Tel Aviv.
