Biographical Note

In 1926, the World Union for Progressive Judaism was established in London after an international conference of liberal Jews. Its purpose was to unite progressive Jews in order to combat religious indifference and revitalize Judaism along progressive lines. By 1943 the Union included the following organizations: the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the Union of Liberal Rabbis (Germany), the Jewish Religious Union (England), the West London Synagogues of British Jews (England), the Liberal Synagogues (Paris), and the Jewish Religious Union (Bombay).
