Scope and Content Note
The various names of the Board of Jewish Education (New York, NY) appear throughout this collection. The records of the Board are divided into two series: Series I: Activities and Series II: Publications.
Series I: Activities includes promotional material, such as posters and pamphlets that advertise the activities of the Board of Jewish Education. (Events and Promotions; Box 1, Folders 1-6, 74,78). The material found in Series I also documents projects sponsored by the Jewish Education Committee, survey data, and survey results (Jewish Education Survey; Box 1, Folders 7-14, 75). Over the years, the Board of Jewish Education sent out press releases to announce their activities; these releases can be found within this series as well (Press Releases: Box 1, Folder 15).
Series II: Publications includes two specific publications (BJE Newsletter; Box 2, Folder 16; and Brush and Color; Box 2, Folder 17), bulletins, and various booklets.

Board of Jewish Education (1970-Present)
The Board of Jewish Education (New York, NY) started in 1910 as the Bureau of Education. In 1917, the organization was renamed the Bureau of Jewish Education. In 1940, the Jewish Education Committee, founded in 1917, absorbed the Bureau of Jewish Education. During the same year, the Jewish Education Committee also absorbed the Jewish Education Association, founded in 1921. In 1970, the Jewish Education Committee changed its name to the Board of Jewish Education.

Language of Materials
Beginning as the Bureau of Education in 1910, the Board of Jewish Education is an agency of the UJA Federation of New York. Under the motto of "Preparing the Jewish Future," the Board of Jewish Education strives to "motivate, strengthen and increase Jewish identity and commitment to the Jewish people through educational services and acculturation programs in New York." The collection includes surveys, promotional documents, and publications documenting the activities of the Board of Jewish Education.
