Scope and Contents
The series contains BACSJ organizational materials, and other organizations' materials on issues, projects and events pertaining to the Soviet Jewry movement and Jewish life in the Former Soviet states. Included is information regarding emigration and immigration, Refuseniks, Prisoners of Conscience, refugees, cultural rights, Antisemitism, dissidents, legal status of Soviet Jews, international trade, interreligious activities, Cold War politics, U.S. foreign policy, human rights commissions and conferences, the Jackson-Vanik Amendment, projects and events of the BACSJ, BACJRR, UCSJ and other local, national, and international organizations involved in the rescue movement. Also included is a selection of reference literature used by BACSJ and BACJRR. The series also features scrapbooks with news clippings reflecting the work of BACSJ, and UCSJ packets—weekly mailings to individual councils containing updates on the situation of the Soviet Jews.
