Abstract

The collection contains comprehensive unofficial transcripts for the proceedings of the trial State of Israel vs. Adolf Eichmann including the verdict and appeal sessions before the Supreme Court. Series II contains select documentary evidence. The vast majority of the transcripts are in German, a small amount are in French or English and some sessions are also available in Hebrew.

Abstract

The collection documents Joseph Löwenherz's activities as the head of Jewish community in Vienna, Austria and his interactions with the Zentralstelle für Jüdische Auswanderung and Gestapo Hauptamt in Vienna. It contains copies of the memos and other reports Joseph Löwenherz had to submit to the Zentralstelle and the Gestapo, which were used as evidence in Adolf Eichmann's trial. Also included are documents and correspondence related to the Eichmann trial as well as correspondence between Löwenherz and his son written between 1939 and 1941 during his travels to several European cities, where he attended meetings concerning the mass repatriation of Jewish citizens out of Europe.

This collection consists of general reference files from the New York City headquarters of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Materials originated in various AJC departments and were maintained by a Central Records office until 1962, when records retention policy was decentralized. Document types include correspondence, memoranda, reports, clippings, and published materials concerning individuals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations related to the work of the AJC.
