Congregation Mikve Israel (Savannah, Ga.) Collection
The collection consists of transcripts from the records of the congregation, 1790-1791; a copy of an 1849 statute of the State of Georgia relating to the congregation; and several publications and newspaper clippings on the history of the congregation. The transcripts also record important dates in the history of the congregation from 1733 to 1904.
Gazette of the United States, George Washington letter to Hebrew Congregation of Savannah
Collection consists of one item, the June 19, 1790 issue of the Gazette of the United States. Within this issue, an address made by Levi Sheftal, President of the Hebrew Congregation of Savannah, GA to President Washington was printed alongside President George Washington's reply.
Isaac de la Motta Collection
Contains certified copies of various documents presented to the court and pertaining to the estate of Isaac de la Motta of Charleston, South Carolina. Included is a copy of a deed of sale for slaves owned by Sarah Canter de la Motta and witnessed by John Canter, and a copy of the ketubah, in Hebrew and also in translation, of Isaac de la Motta and Sarah Canter, signed by Levi Sheftall, Abraham De Lyon, Isaac Franks, Raphael Da Costa Amesquita, and Isaac de la Motta, with accompanying affadavits. It is unclear for what purpose these documents were prepared.
