Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel (Elkins Park, Pa.)

The collection consists of correspondence between Maurice Jacobs and important Jewish organizations and individuals. The majority of the collection consists of Jacobs' correspondence between organizations such as colleges, universities, and notable local and national Jewish organizations. The collection documents the years 1926 to 1985, with the bulk of the material dating from 1947 to 1985. Besides correspondence, the papers contain clippings, memos, photographs, agendas, reports, and meeting minutes.

Collection consists of bulletins, invitations, programs, and an audiocassette pertaining to the 150th anniversary celebration of the first Reform congregation in Philadelphia. An exhibit guide within the collection provides extensive historical information. The collection also includes a biographical sketch of the late Rabbi Bertram W. Korn, and a service of installation for Rabbi Bradley N. Bleefeld. The audiocassette consists of a compendium of services used by the Congregation over the last 150 years.

Collection contains the following items relating to the Reis family of North Carolina and Philadelphia: 1) the small-pox vaccination certificate of Fanny Friedmann, grandmother of donor (1831); 2) exit visa from Germany for Joseph Friedmann and three children (1854); 3) two Masonic certificates from a North Carolina lodge, of Max Reis, father of donor (1873); 4) naturalization certificate of Max Reis (1874); and 5) marriage certificate of Max Reis and Louise Dreyfoos, from Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, Philadelphia, signed by Samuel Hirsch (1880).
