Scope and Content Note

This collection contains photocopies of documents, photographs, and genealogical tables pertaining to the family of Evelyn Pearl (Perl) of Berlin and the related Wachsmann (Waxman) and Heimann families.

The documents in the first folder primarily related to the family's emigration in 1941 to over Portugal the United States on the ship Nyassa. There are a couple of photographs of the voyage and also a document pertaining to the expropriation of the family business in Berlin. The photographs show primarily domestic scenes of the Perl, Waxman, and Heimann families in Berlin and its environs, with some vacation photographs. The family trees and genealogical forms in folder three contain information from the late 19th century through the late 20th century. The final folders contain photocopies of articles, photographs and a few documents pertaining to Evelyn Pearl's relatives, the prominent film composer Franz Waxman and the athlete Martha Jacob. Also included in the collection is a short DVD recording from 1991 of Evelyn Pearl visiting her family's former residences, businesses, and other important sites in Berlin.
