Gomez family papers
Scope and Content Note
Consists of the papers of the following members of the Gomez family of New York: Lewis Moses (1654/60-1740), a copy of an indenture, 1716, and a copy in Latin and translation in English of a certificate of denization, 1717; Jacob (d. 1722), his son, a copy of an indenture, 1716; Daniel (1695-1780), another son, copies of indentures for the years 1719, 1747 and 1775; Mordecai (1688-1750), another son, inventory of his estate, signed by four of his brothers, 1750; Moses (1744/5-1826), son of Mordecai, a letter to William Livingston, governor of New Jersey, on a personal matter, 1782; Aaron Lopez (d. 1860), grandson of Mordecai, a personal account book, 1858-1860, a ketubah for his marriage to Hetty Hendricks, 1821, and indentures, receipts and other legal records of Aaron and Hetty Gomez, their children, trustees, and estates, primarily relating to properties in New York City, 1818-1882. Also includes a copy of an indenture of 1751, part of which was the Archibald Kennedy Patent from which Lewis Moses and Jacob Gomez purchased land, and a copy of an indenture, 1772, of Wolvert Eckar, owner of property near the Hudson River where the Gomezes built a trading post. Contains also a photograph of the Gomez family coat of arms.
Consists of a ledger listing financial transactions and inventories of estates of several members of the Gomez family. Included is a record of money collected on behalf of the "Holley Congregation of Hebron" (1770) by Gomez in his capacity as the collector for New York and general treasurer for the Hebron appeal in North America; a record of payments to "Wm.
