Scope and Content Note
This collection is mostly made up of publications from Jewish Left organizations and materials related to the establishment of the New Jewish Agenda, a progressive multi-issue Jewish organization that focused on nuclear disarmament; peace in the Middle East, Central America, and South America; equal rights for women, gays, and lesbians; and the fight against racism and anti-Semitism. Jacobs was heavily involved in the Argentinean Jewry project, which worked against anti-Semitism and violence toward the Jewish community in Argentina. Materials related to the Argentinean Jewry include articles written by Jacobs and published by the Jewish Student Press Service, clippings, reports, materials related to the Anti-Defamation League’s prisoner project, and New Jewish Agenda Argentinean Jewry committee documents. Other organizations documented in the collection include Medem Jewish Socialist Group and the Jewish Socialist Community.

Jack Jacobs is an American Jewish academic. In the 1980s, Jacobs was a member of the New Jewish Agenda and focused his work for the organization on raising awareness of anti-Semitism towards Jews in Argentina. He received his doctorate from Columbia University in 1983. Jacobs’ studies focus on Eastern European socialist political parties and the Jewish Labor Bund. As of this writing (2016), he is a professor of Political Science at John Jay College and the CUNY Graduate Center.
